The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island in New York have been evacuated due to a suspicious package.
The island is home to the world-famous statue, a major tourist destination for people visiting the United States.
"They are doing a security sweep," a spokesperson for the National Park Service told the BBC, but refused to say what they were looking for.
The New York Police Department said its bomb squad is on the scene along with harbour units.
The city's fire department said it had been called at 12:57 local time (16:57 GMT) for the investigation of "a suspicious package".
The statue was given to the US by France in 1886, in recognition of the friendship between the two nations.
